The
society arranges a series of lecture meetings on
geological/environmental topics in the winter months (September to
March). The lectures,usually illustrated, are given by
professional/academic geologists.
There is also
an annual event when members have the opportunity to give short talks/demonstrations.
Lectures
are held at 7:30 pm in the Arthur Holmes lecture
theatre, which is downstairs from the Porter's Lodge on the
Science Laboratories site, South Rd., University of Durham.
They are followed by coffee or tea, to which all speakers are
cordially invited. The
December and March meetings are followed by cheese and wine.
The
March meeting is preceded by the AGM, which lasts about
15 min.
In addition,
members are invited to attend the weekly guest lectures of the Open
University Geology Summer Schools which are held at Durham in July
and August,
commencing Wed. 16/07/08
