Carboniferous Howick and Boulmer.

at 10.30 am. Carboniferous sedimentary cycles between Howick Bay and Boulmer.
The
trip will traverse 'Yoredale' type cycles from the
top Visean and Base Namurian
along the seashore north of Boulmer. These are some
of the most accessible exposures of Carboniferous stratigraphy in the North
East and will provide an excellent opportunity to 'get your eye in' on
limestones, sandstones, shales and coals.
Length
of trip: Full-day.
Meeting
Point: The public car park on the coast at Boulmer
(free). Toilets: Adjacent to the car park in Boulmer.

26th September Knock Fell, Pennine Escarpment. Leader: Eric Johnson

on the side of the Great Dun fell road where it leaves the enclosed ground by
the sheep pens [NY 697 296]. The circular route followed the Pennine Way up the
escarpment alongside Swindale Beck onto Knock Fell
and returned via the Dun Fell road.

valley about 2 miles north of Middleton Teesdale; on
the roadside at NY945 288 north of Club Gill.
Walking distance about 5miles or
8 kilometres following paths and tracks on open moorland. Amount
of uphill walking, about 200metres.
