The Dorman Museum,Middlesbrough

Dorman Museum

The Dorman Museum has one of the most extensive geological collections in North East England, comprising many fine and unusual fossils, rocks and minerals from regional, and world-wide sites.
Located close to the centre of town, this listed Edwardian building has been transformed into a major cultural resource.

It has undergone extensive refurbishment funded by Middlesbrough Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund. The museum is now open to the public with many new display galleries and additional facilities.

One of the main attractions is a new geology gallery - 'Earth in Space' - illustrating the formation of the Earth and how life may have been affected by major meteorite impacts and other universal forces.
A star attraction is a life size reconstruction of Eotyranosaurus, the earliest tyrannosaur, whose fossil remains have been found in the UK.

The museum's collection of some 60,000+ geological specimens is currently being recorded on a computer database.
This information, along with selected images, will shortly become available over the Internet.
